Kathleen (Casey) Oberlin

Kathleen (Casey) Oberlin is a researcher based in Chicago. Formerly, she was an assistant professor in the department of sociology at Grinnell College. Her research examines why and how we find some social movements’ claims more plausible than others when they build their own institutions. Her book, Creating the Creation Museum: How Fundamentalist Beliefs Come to Life (NYU Press, 2020) is based on over three years of fieldwork completed at the Creation Museum in Kentucky built by Answers in Genesis, an organization tied to the broader Young Earth Creationist movement.
